Why Black Women Deserve Luxury

April 09, 20253 min read

When we created the Black Blossom Wellness Retreat, we envisioned more than a getaway. We envisioned a sanctuary—a sacred space where Black Women could exhale, restore, and remember who they are outside of what they do. We were inspired by one simple truth: Black Women deserve luxury.

Not earned, not bargained for, not negotiated. Deserved.

Black Women Deserve Luxury: and why our rest is revolutionary is so controversial. Because the world has conditioned us to believe that our worth is directly tied to our labor. That our value increases the more we give, hustle, and sacrifice. So when we dare to rest, to be cared for, to choose softness over struggle—it disrupts everything society has projected onto us. It makes people uncomfortable. And yet, it is exactly what we need.

Too often, Black Women carry the weight of the world while being expected to do it with grace, strength, and a smile. We give our energy to family, careers, movements, and communities—leaving little room to pour into ourselves. The Black Blossom Retreat was our intentional disruption of that pattern.

A Space to Breathe

Set along the breathtaking coastline of Salchi, Oaxaca, this oceanside oasis offered more than beautiful scenery. The rhythmic crash of waves, the lull of the ocean breeze, and the palette of pink and gold sunrises and sunsets set the stage for healing and softness.

Each day began with sunrise yoga—a grounding practice that allowed us to greet the day with presence and gratitude. Women stretched, breathed, and centered themselves against the stunning backdrop of nature's serenity. It wasn't about performance or perfection. It was about coming home to our bodies.

From there, beachside massages, intentional rest, and long, nourishing conversations became the rhythm of our days. Every meal was a celebration of preference and pleasure—freshly prepared according to each guest's dietary needs and desires. We removed the guesswork and labor so our sisters could simply receive.

A Community of Ease and Empowerment

The most powerful part of the experience was the community. Women from all walks of life came together, not to network for gain, but to commune in authenticity. To talk. To laugh. To cry. To simply be. The synergy that unfolded was pure magic—a reminder that we are stronger when we soften together.

We witnessed healing in real time. Women who hadn’t given themselves permission to rest finally surrendering to the moment. Women who had been holding tight to control letting go and letting flow. Women finding sisterhood where they didn’t even realize they were lonely.

The Luxury of Slowing Down

Luxury isn’t just five-star dining or plush robes. Luxury is time. Luxury is space. Luxury is having our needs met without explanation. And for Black Women, luxury is revolutionary. To slow down is to rebel against grind culture. To rest is to reclaim our birthright.

In Salchi, we slowed down. We allowed ourselves to feel the sun on our skin without rushing. We practiced stillness without guilt. We let nature remind us that rest is not idleness—it is necessary.

Why We Need This

Because too many Black Women have never been told, shown, or reminded that they are worthy of softness. That their healing matters. That joy, pleasure, and care are not rewards—they are requirements.

The Black Blossom Wellness Retreat wasn’t a vacation. It was a remembering. A reclamation. And as co-creators, we hold deep gratitude for every woman who said yes to herself.

We believe this work is sacred. And we’re not done.

To every Black Woman reading this: You deserve rest. You deserve joy. You deserve luxury.

And we’ll keep creating the spaces where you can receive it.
