My love for plants came later in life and took off. I was raised with plants all over our home. My mom was my initial teacher. My love and dedication to these living beings are a part of my daily life. They are my friends. I sit and talk to them in my meditation room as I drink my morning cup of coffee. My plants bring me so much joy. I currently have nearly fifty and can't wait to get more.
Plants release oxygen during the day in the presence of natural light through the process of photosynthesis. While at night, the plants uptake oxygen and release carbon dioxide, which is called respiration. Adding plants to interior spaces can increase oxygen levels. At night, photosynthesis ceases, and plants typically respire like humans, absorbing oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. A few plants –orchids, succulents and epiphytic bromeliads –do just the opposite, taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
